Why Wellbeing is a new cornerstone for ESG strategy

Where once wellbeing was considered a ‘nice-to-have’ that was largely the responsibility of the individual employee, today we have a better understanding of its impact on productivity and engagement, and ultimately on a business’ growth and profitability.

This has driven leaders to invest in proactive wellbeing strategies, with positive implications across all areas of the organisation.

In its turn, paying attention to wellbeing has brought to light the human impact of areas of corporate governance that we would not previously have thought of as being connected to employee wellbeing, such as CSR and ESG.

According to a study by Deloitte, wellbeing is now considered a vital pillar of any ESG strategy, as employees are undoubtedly affected by factors such as diversity and inclusion, access to healthcare, and climate change.

As the study highlights:

“Climate change has undeniable impacts on human wellbeing. Record-breaking heatwaves in Australia and California led to severe drought, hazardous air quality, and the burning of more than 11 million Australian hectares (27,181,591 acres) and more than 12,000 Californian hectares (three million acres) of parkland, forest, and bush,12, 13, 14 which intensified the hazardous air conditions.”

With a growing focus on wellbeing, a move towards improved wellbeing reporting, as well as new CSRD reporting coming into play this year, there’s never been a more relevant time than now to bring wellbeing and ESG together.

The MyDay app is a personal wellbeing tool that not only provides access to tools, resources and support to proactively manage your own wellness; it’s also a platform to connect individuals to each other and their work community, and to bring climate action into the everyday by collecting Planet Points to exchange for carbon credits.
